English
Language and Literacy underpin every aspect of learning for our pupils. Through personalised communication approaches—including AAC, sensory stories and emergent literacy skills—we equip learners to express themselves, understand their world and build meaningful relationships. Developing functional literacy supports independence, choice‑making and engagement in community life as pupils grow into young adults. Pupils enjoy daily lessons in Phonics, Reading, English and Snack & Story sessions, along with a range of cross‑curricular opportunities to develop their literacy skills.
Reading - Little Wandle
At our school, we are proud to be a Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised school. This means we deliver a highly effective, systematic approach to teaching early reading and phonics, ensuring every child builds the strong foundations they need to become confident, fluent readers.
Through daily, structured phonics lessons, consistent teaching practices, and carefully matched reading books, we create an environment where all children are supported to succeed. Our staff are fully trained in the Little Wandle programme, enabling us to provide high‑quality teaching, targeted support, and regular opportunities for children to apply their growing skills.
By following this proven phonics approach, we empower our learners to develop a love of reading from the very start of their journey with us.
