Evidence for Learning
At Marjorie McClure we use Evidence for Learning (EfL) to capture photos and videos of pupils learning all over the school. This evidence feeds into our formative and summative assessment and enables us to monitor and record progress against a range of targets and outcomes.
EfL allows each pupil to have an individualised assessment framework that links to their own targets - based upon learning, physical, communication and independence outcomes - these are set by teachers, outside agencies and specialists. We also use EfL to monitor progress against EHCP outcomes and recommendations.
EfL not only helps us to assess and monitor achievement and progress for each pupil, but it is also a great tool for communication and the sharing of information with parents and carers.
EfL - Communication
Evidence is recorded throughout the school day for each pupil - this data is then linked to relevant frameworks and comments from the staff working with them. We are then able to share this information with 2 parents or carers via the EfL Parent Portal. It is a simple process whereby parents download the parent app and then receive updates throughout the week where they can see the amazing learning that is going on in school. This is especially important for our pupils who have communication difficulties and may not be able to go home and tell their family about their day.
We also share end of term and end of year reports via the parent portal which enables parents and carers to gain a clear insight into the learning outcomes their child is working towards.
EfL can also be used by parents and carers to upload and share photos and videos from home. This means that families can share the progress being made with school staff, and can demonstrate the differences and similarities presented at home and in school. Parents can also upload evidence of completed homework using EfL and teachers will be able to interact with this and give feedback.
If your child attends Marjorie McClure and you would like more information regarding EfL please do not hesitate to contact our EfL lead - Ellie Salisbury - esalisbury@mmc.bromley.sch.uk
