Do you enjoy days out to the seaside, football tournaments, shopping, art galleries, museums, indoor rock climbing?

Would you like a reason not to do the housework or ironing at home!

Are you enthusiastic, adaptable and with a sense of humour?

If you have answered ‘yes’ to any of the above, have you thought about becoming a voluntary helper at Marjorie McClure?

What does being a voluntary helper mean?

Voluntary helpers can make a big difference in school. This generally involves you providing a much appreciated extra pair of hands in the classroom to give a child or group of children some extra support during their lessons and should you be unsure of what to do, there is always someone who will be able to help you.

You may be asked to work with a small group of children or an individual child on a task set by the teacher.

You may find yourself singing in the music lesson, playing balloon volleyball in PE or making garlic bread in Food Technology!

Groups of pupils in the school have some wide ranging trips out in the community for educational visits, when voluntary helpers are needed even more.

Voluntary helpers usually commit to spending regular slots of time in school each week. The amount of time is up to you but we do need this to be a regular, reliable commitment.

If you have a child who attends Marjorie McClure School our policy means that you would not help in their class as this could prove to be disruptive. Research shows that having a parent who volunteers improves a child’s experience of school, possibly at Marjorie McClure, because you are often more familiar with the school and know what goes on during the day and are able to get behind the scenes of school life.

There is a requirement for all schools to carry out a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check for all staff and volunteers who have regular contact with children.

In order for you to work regularly in school as a volunteer, you will need to complete a DBS form  - there is no cost to yourself. Please be assured that all information will be treated in the strictest confidence; these checks are done only in the best interests and safety of the children.
