Duke of Edinburgh Award (D of E)
Duke of Edinburgh's Award (Bronze & Silver) - Years 12 to 14
We are delighted to offer students in Years 12 to 14 the opportunity to take part in the Duke of Edinburgh's Award (DofE), one of the UK's leading youth achievement programmes. The award encourages young people to build confidence, develop independence, learn new skills, and create lasting memories through a range of exciting and rewarding activities.
Bronze Award
The Bronze Award is designed to help students challenge themselves and discover new talents through three key sections:
- Volunteering - helping others or supporting the local community for 3 months.
- Physical - improving fitness, participating in sport, dance, or another physical activity for 3 months.
- Skills - developing a practical, creative, or social skill for 3 months.
Students also have the opportunity to take part in an overnight experience at Woodlarks or Wood Lodge. For those who may find an overnight stay difficult, an alternative skills-based programme can be offered. Some students may also be given the opportunity to participate in a supported walking and exploration experience tailored to their individual needs.
Silver Award
Students who have completed their Bronze Award can progress to the Silver Award, which offers further challenge and personal development.
The Silver Award includes four sections:
- Volunteering - 6 months.
- Physical and Skills - one section completed for 6 months and the other for 3 months.
- Expedition - a 3-day, 2-night experience including planned activities and teamwork.
Benefits of Taking Part
The Duke of Edinburgh's Award helps young people develop lifelong confidence and self-belief. Participants have the chance to follow their interests, try new activities, and discover strengths they may never have realised they had.
Through DofE, students can:
- Develop communication, teamwork, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
- Build resilience, independence, and confidence.
- Improve physical and mental wellbeing.
- Make a positive difference in their community.
- Make new friends and enjoy memorable experiences.
- Gain valuable evidence of their achievements for college, university, and future employment applications.
Most importantly, DofE is about having fun, taking on new challenges, and celebrating personal success. Every young person follows their own unique journey, supported every step of the way.
